Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 Update: Firefly, Jade, Divergent Universe & Apocalyptic Shadow

The Astral Express crew is preparing for a monumental shift as the highly anticipated Version 2.3 update for Honkai: Star Rail arrives. This patch, officially titled 'Farewell, Penacony,' promises to deliver a thrilling conclusion to the current story arc while introducing a wealth of new content that will redefine the endgame experience. From powerful new characters to innovative game modes, the universe is about to get a lot more expansive.

Two formidable 5-star characters are making their debut. First is Firefly, a Fire element warrior following the Path of Destruction. She is a member of the enigmatic Stellaron Hunters, a young girl permanently encased in the powerful mechanical armor known as SAM. Her tragic background involves genetic modification that left her afflicted with Entropy Loss Syndrome. She fights to find meaning in her existence, and in combat, she unleashes this resolve through her mech. Her Ultimate ability, Complete Combustion, transforms SAM, granting it enhanced Break capabilities and Break Damage. In this state, she can even reduce the Toughness of enemies not weak to Fire and apply the Fire weakness herself using her Technique or Enhanced Skill.

The second new arrival is Jade, a Quantum element character on the Path of Erudition. As a senior manager in the Interastral Peace Corporation's Strategic Investment Department and one of the Ten Stonehearts, she is the epitome of cold, calculated elegance. Her cornerstone is the 'Jade of Credit,' and she is a master at understanding—and exploiting—human desire. Her combat style is as shrewd as her business dealings. Jade can designate an ally as a 'Debt Collector.' Attacks from either herself or this collector build Charges, which trigger powerful follow-up assaults. Each follow-up attack from her Talent stacks buffs that increase her CRIT DMG and ATK, making her a formidable scaling damage dealer.

The character banners for this update are split into two compelling phases.

Phase 1 Banners:

Phase 2 Banners:

• Jade (5-Star, Quantum/Erudition) - Launch Banner

Accompanying Jade's banner will be a new 4-star Light Cone for the Erudition Path, titled 'After the Charmony Fall.' Its specific effects remain a mystery, waiting for players to discover.

Perhaps the most revolutionary addition is the Divergent Universe, a massive 'DLC' expansion for the Simulated Universe. This mode runs parallel to the original; you can play both! Its key feature is accessibility: all characters are auto-leveled to your account's maximum and equipped with temporary Relics and Light Cones. This lets players freely experiment with new team compositions and characters they don't own. The gameplay gets a shake-up with new mechanics:

• Equations: Combine specific Blessings to activate powerful set bonuses.

• Weighted Curios: New curios tailored to boost specific characters.

• Gacha Machines: Test your luck during a run for extra rewards.

• Passive Skill Tree: A Path of Exile-inspired tree providing permanent bonuses to ease future runs.

• Planar Ornaments Extraction: A huge quality-of-life feature. Save your run's progress and blessings, then simply defeat the final boss to claim your Planar Ornaments without replaying the entire sequence.

Furthermore, a new 5-star Light Cone, Eternal Calculus, will be added to Herta's Store for purchase with Herta Bonds.

The endgame roster expands with Apocalyptic Shadow, a new mode that will rotate with Memory of Chaos and Pure Fiction. As the name suggests, this mode focuses on challenging boss battles, shifting the meta to favor powerful single-target damage dealers. The reward structure for all endgame modes is also getting a boost. Clearing any phase fully will now grant 800 Stellar Jades, up from 720. As a special incentive, the 4-star Quantum character Xueyi will be given as a reward for clearing Apocalyptic Shadow for the first time.

To support the new characters and challenges, two new sets of Planar Ornaments and two new Cavern Relic sets will be added:

The update's namesake, 'Farewell, Penacony,' is the new Trailblaze Mission that concludes the Penacony narrative. A new explorable area will also open up. In a fantastic early-game improvement, players can now unlock the Harmony specialization for the Trailblazer directly in Belobog. Previously locked behind Penacony story progression, this allows new players to experience this powerful support path much earlier, as soon as they unlock the Preservation specialization.

As a final treat, the developers offered a glimpse beyond 2.3. The story will return to the Xianzhou Luofu for a grand event: The Wardance. This Luminary Combat Arts Ceremony will feature delegates from all Xianzhou alliances, hinting at several new characters poised to join the roster in future updates.
